## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON JULY 10 1998, AIRCRAFT N5763J WAS TRANSPORTED TO DEL-AIR AVIATION, IN PROTERVILLE, CA. WHERE A CLOSER ENGINE INSPECTION WAS PERFORMED. THIS CONFIRMED THAT AN AEROQUIP E-Z DRAIN SUMP VALVE, PART NUMBER AE99950G, FAA-PMA APPROVED, WAS A POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTING FACTOR, IN THE COMPLETE LOSS OF ENGINE OIL. A LANDING GEAR RETRACT FUNCTIONAL CHECK WAS PERFORMED EVIDENCE SHOWS THAT THE NOSE WHEEL STRUT ASSEMBLE, CONTACTED THE E-Z DRAIN SUMP VALVE. THE A SAFETY RECOMMENDATION WILL BE GIVEN CONSIDERATION. DAMAGE TO PROPELLER INDICATES THE ENGINE WAS NOT DEVELOPING POWER AT TIME OF IMPACT. EXAMINATION OF THE ENGINE REVEALED A THREE TO FOUR INCH HOLE IN THE TOP OF THE CRANKCASE INBOARD OF THE NUMBER FOUR CYLINDER. THE ENGINE OIL DIPSTICK DID NOT INDICATE ANY OIL IN THE ENGINE.

Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
