ON JULY8, 1998, A CESSNA 210L DEPARTED KIMERLING CITY, MO AT APPROXIMATELY 0600 ENROUTE TO LIBERAL, KS. PILOT IN COMMAND WAS MATTHEW R. ZIEGELBEIN WITH ONE PASSENGER ON BOARD. AT APPROXIMATELY 0830-0845 THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND HAD TO MAKE AN EMERGENCY LANDING IN A PASTURE APPROXIMATELY 17 MILES ENE OF LIBERAL. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LAND THE RIGHT HAND MAIN GEAR STRUCK A COW AND THE GEAR WAS SHEARED FROM THE AIRCRAFT. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED SUSTAINING MINOR DAMAGE. NEITHER THE PILOT NOR HIS PASSENGER RECEIVED ANY INJURIES.
