## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PILOT OF N180DR, CESSNA 180, CALLED THIS INSPECTOR 30 MINUTES AFTER ACCIDENT. THE PILOT SAID THAT SEVERAL MILES EAST OF 3G3 AIRPORT ENGINE QUIT, HE SAID THAT HE HAD RUN THE LEFT TANK DRY AND STILL HAD 15 GALLONS OF FUEL IN THE RIGHT TANK. HE WAS NOT ABLE TO EXECUTE A LANDING ON THE RUNWAY AT 3G3. HE OVERSHOT AND ENDED UP IN A FIELD APPROXIMATELY 100 YARDS SOUTH OF THE AIRPORT. HE STATED THAT HE FORGOT TO SWITCH TANKS AND WANTED TO BE HONEST UP FRONT. HE ALSO MADE THIS SAME STATEMENT TO THE HIGHWAY PATROL AND SIGNED THE REPORT FOR THEM. TWO DAYS AFTER THE ACCIDENT, THE PILOT SENT THE CLE FSDO A FAX STATING THAT HE HAS NO IDEA WHY THE ENGINE QUIT. THE PILOT STATED THAT APPROXIMATELY 7 HOURS AFTER THE ACCIDENT HE DRAINED 10 GALLONS OUT OF EACH WING ON THE AIRCRAFT.
