## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) A WITNESS STATED THAT HE OBSERVED THE ACCIDENT AIRPLANE FLYING VERY LOW AND PERFORMING STEEP TURNS AND BANKS IN THE GENERAL AREA OF THE CRASH SITE. THE AIRCRAFT SUBSEQUENTLY IMPACTED THE GROUND IN A HEAVILY WOODED AREA. A POST CRASH FIRE DESTROYED THE AIRPLANE AND BOTH OCCUPANTS WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED. BOTH WERE AIR-EVACED TO COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL, COLUMBIA, MO. (.4) THE PILOT SAID THAT DURING A LEFT TURN TO THE CROSSWIND LEG DURING CLIMB FROM TAKEOFF, THE AILERON AND ELEVATOR CONTROLS BECAME JAMMED. HE SAID HE WAS UNABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL PRIOR TO IMPACT WITH TREES AND THE TERRAIN. HE SAID AFTER THE AIRPLANE CAME TO REST A POST-IMPACT FIRE IGNITED. AN EXAMINATION OF THE WRECKAGE AFTER THE ACCIDENT FAILED TO REVEAL THE NATURE OF THE JAMMED CONTROLS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI98LA248](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI98LA248), Jul 12, 1998: Forney 415-C (N99294), Laurie, MO, destroyed. Probable cause: the jammed aileron and elevator controls for undetermined reasons.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
