## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) AFTER DEPARTING RUNWAY 17 AND TURNING INTO RT. DOWNWIND, PILOT TURNED EAST ACROSS THE AIRPORT, AT WHICH TIME HE NOTICED HIS AIRSPEED HAD DROPPED TO AROUND 60. HE PITCHED THE NOSE DOWN AND APPLIED FULL POWER. AIRCRAFT WAS HAVING DIFFICULT TIME CLIMBING. ATTEMPTED TO DUMP THE CHEMICAL LOAD AND STRUCK A HOUSE AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME. (.4) THE PILOT OF AN AERIAL APPLICATION AIRPLANE REPORTED THAT THE AIRPLANE BEGAN LOSING AIRSPEED WHEN IT WAS ABOPUT 200-FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. AS THE PILOT MANEUVERED THE AIRPLANE TOWARD AN AREA AWAY FROM THE TOWN HE WAS FLYING OVER IT BEGAN TO LOSE ALTITUDE. AS IT LOST ALTITUDE, THE AIRPLANE COLLIDED WITH TREES AND THE ROOF OF A HOUSE, NOSING OVER AS IT COLLIDED WITH THE GROUND. THE ON-SCENE INVESTIGATION REVEALED NO ANOMALIES WITH THE AIRFRAME OR ENGINE EXCEPT AN INOPERATIVE LEFT MAGNETO.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI98LA264](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI98LA264), Jul 21, 1998: Grumman G-164 (N698Y), Hoxie, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: the total failure of the engine's left magneto.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
