## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4) THE CERTIFICATED PRIVATE PILOT WAS LANDING TO THE EAST ON A REMOTE AIRSTRIP. DURING LANDING ROLLOUT, THE AIRPLANE VEERED TO THE LEFT, AND THE LEFT WING STRUCK A STAND OF WILLOW TREES. THE PILOT STATED THAT THE AIRPLANE PIVOTED TO THE LEFT, AND THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. THE AIRPLANE'S RIGHT WING STRUCK THE GROUND, AND SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. THE PILOT NOTED THAT THERE WERE NO PREACCIDENT MECHANICAL ANOMALIES WITH THE AIRPLANE. (-23) ON JULY 23, 1998 AT APPROXIMATELY 1450 ADT WITH THE PILOT AS SOLE OCCUPANT, A TAYLORCRAFT BC-12D CRASHED ON LANDING NEAR BELUGA, ALASKA. THE PILOT STATED THAT ON ROLLOUT DURING THE LANDING PHASE, ON A NARROW ROAD, THE LEFT WING STRUCK BRUSH THAT HAD GROWN OVER THE LANDING AREA. THE PILOT STATED HIS CONTROL INPUTS WERE INCORRECT IN THAT THE LEFT BRAKE WAS APPLIED AT WHICH TIME THE AIRCRAFT VEERED TO THE LEFT AND DEPARTED THE ROAD INTO AN UNIMPROVED AREA. THE RIGHT GEAR LEG WAS DESTROYED AND THE RIGHT WING SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. VFR CONDITIONS PREVAILED AND THE WIND WAS STATED BY THE PILOT AS A DIRECT HEADWIND. THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ANC98LA111](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ANC98LA111), Jul 23, 1998: Taylorcraft BC12-D (N96346), Tyonek, AK, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain directional control while landing. A factor associated with the accident were willow trees near the airstrip.

## Other reports on N96346 (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19780529040959I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19780529040959I), May 29, 1978: Tcraft BC12D (N96346), Palmer, AK, Minor damage. Engine sputtered and quit at cruise. Landed in marshy area and tipped up on nose. Water in fuel.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
