## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

THE PILOT REPORTED THAT AT AN ALTITUDE OF 60 TO 70 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER OCCURRED FOLLOWED BY A 'RAPID DESCENT' INTO A LINE OF TREES AT THE NORTH END OF THE RUNWAY. THE RIGHT WING OF THE AIRPLANE CONTACTED A LARGE CEDAR TREE AT A HEIGHT OF ABOUT 15 TO 18 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. POST ACCIDENT INSPECTION OF THE AIRPLANE FAILED TO REVEAL ANY REASON FOR THE LOSS OF POWER. (-23) AIRCRAFT LOST POWER AFTER TAKEOFF. PILOT LOWERED NOSE AND STRUCK TREES AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY. FUEL EXHAUSTION/STARVATION HAS BEEN RULED OUT. INVESTIGATION IS STILL IN PROGRESS.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI98LA294](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI98LA294), Aug 2, 1998: Piper 20 (N127X), Andover, KS, substantial damage. Probable cause: a loss of engine power for undetermined reasons. A factor associated with the accident were the trees which the airplane contacted and the low altitude at which the loss of power occurred.

## Other reports on N127X (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 19920731032379I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920731032379I), Jul 31, 1992: Piper PA20 (N127X), Joplin, MO. Oil on windshield. Loss of oil pressure. Forced landing in field. Found a broken NR4 connecting rod.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
