## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACFT WAS ATTEMPTING TO LAND IN A RICE FIELD FOR UNKNOWN REASONS WHEN IT STRUCK A LEVEE AND FLIPPED OVER. (-23) WITNESSES STATED THAT THE PILOT WAS CIRCLING AN OIL DRILLING RIG ON AN AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY MISSIN WHEN THE AIRCRAFT ATTEMPTED TO LAND IN A DRY RICE FIELD. ONE WITNESS FROM THE OIL RIG SITE STATED THAT HE HEARD THE ENGINE SPUTTERING. TWO OTHER WITNESSES FROM THE SAME LOCATION STATED THAT THE NOISE WAS TOO HIGH FROM THE OIL RIG TO HEAR ANY NOISE FROM THE AIRCRAFT. DURING THE LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK A 4' LEVEE AND FLIPPED OVER ON ITS BACK. THE INVESTIGATION DID NOT REVEAL ANY MALFUNCTIONS WITH THE ENGINE OR THE AIRFRAM FUEL SYSTEM. THE PILOT HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO GIVE ANY STATEMENTS DUE TO HIS PHYSICAL CONDITION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW98LA347](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW98LA347), Aug 9, 1998: Cessna 152 (N69269), Hayes, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The forced landing for undetermined reasons. A factor was no suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
