## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACFT EXPERIENCED A COMPLLETE ENGINE FAILURE, MADE A HARD LANDING, THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED AND PUNCTURED A FUEL CELL. (-23) PILOT MADE NORMAL TAKEOFF IN DAY VFR CONDITIONS. ON CROSSWIND, AT APPROXIMATELY 400 FEET AGL, THE ENGINE FAILED. PILOT ATTEMPTED TO RETURN TO AIRPORT; LANDED SHORT IN THE GRASS NEXT TO THE RUNWAY. THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED OUTWARD AND REARWARD, CAUSING THE LEADING EDGE OF THE LEFT WING TO WRINKLE. THE TIPS OF THE WINDMILLING PROPELLER BENT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)
