## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-5)PILOT LANDED ON WAKE LEFT BY CREWBOAT. THE RIGHT FLOAT BECAME SUBMERGED, CAUSING THE AIRPLANE TO NOSE OVER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES SUSTAINED BY EITHER THE PILOT OR PASSENGER. MR. PORTER HAS OVER 7,000 HOURS IN MAKE AND MODEL WITHOUT ANY PRIOR ACCIDENTS OR INCIDENTS. HE STATED THAT HE HAD LANDED UNDER SIMILAR CONDITIONS MANY TIMES BEFORE WITHOUT EXPERIENCING ANY PROBLEMS; BECAUSE OF THIS HE DID NOT FEEL THAT A HAZARDOUS SITUATION EXISTED. PILOT NOW REALIZES THAT THERE ARE HAZARDS ASSOCITATED WITH THIS TYPE OF LANDING, AND WILL AVOID LANDING ACCROSS BOAT WAKES IN THE FUTURE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW99LA028](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW99LA028), Aug 12, 1998: Cessna 185F (N4810), Venice, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain control of the airplane during high speed step-taxi. A factor was the swell left by the boat.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
