## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACFT LANDED HARD, THE LANDING GEAR BROKE, AND THE WINGS AND PROPELLER SUSTAINED DAMAGE. (-23) ON TOUCHDOWN PILOT IN CONTROL THOUGHT THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT IN A GOOD POSITION SO ADDED POWER, BECAME AIRBORNE AND DRIFTED RIGHT. PILOT IN CONTROL USED INCORRECT CROSSWIND TECHNIQUE THEREBY AGGRAVATING THE SITUATION. (.4) THE PILOT STATED THAT SHE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN PROPER ALIGNMENT WITH THE RUNWAY DUE TO A CROSSWIND. SHE ATTEMPTED TO ABORT THE LANDING ADDING POWER AND REDUCING THE FLAPS. AIRCRAFT CONTROL WAS LOST. THE AIRPLANE EXITED THE RUNWAY, CROSSED A TAXIWAY, AND PROCEEDED APPROXIMATELY 600 FEET THROUGH A GRASSY AREA. THE AIRPLANE THEN TURNED LEFT WHERE THE LEFT MAIN LANDING GEAR AND NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI98LA317](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI98LA317), Aug 17, 1998: Beech C23 (N6756C), North Platte, NE, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot's not compensating for wind conditions and failure to maintain control of the aircraft. A factor was the crosswind.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
