(-5) ON AUGUST 22, 1998, AT 1015 A.M. CDT, FLIGHT NUMBER 5983, FROM CHICAGO, IL, TO SPRINGFIELD, IL, A BEECHCRAFT 1900-D, N94UX, EXPERIENCED A RAPID DEPRESSURIZATION WHILE IN LEVEL FLIGHT AT 16,000 FEET. ONE PASSENGER SUFFERED AN ASTHMA ATTACK DURING THE FLIGHT TO SPRINGFIELD, IL, BUT REFUSED MEDICAL ATTENTION AFTER LANDING. THE TWO CREW AND 15 PASSENGERS SUFFERED NO INJURIES. THE COMPANY MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL AT SPRINGFIELD, IL, FOUND THE CABIN DOOR SEAL TO HAVE FAILED. THE SEAL HAD STRETCHED BEYOND LIMITS AND COULD NOT BE REINSTALLED. MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL DETERMINED THAT THE SEAL HAD BE REPLACED ON AUGUST 20, 1998. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF ADHESIVE ON THE SEAL OR THE DOOR. A NEW SEAL WAS INSTALLED AND THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO SERVICE. THIS INCIDENT IS CLOSED WITH THIS REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
