## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACFT STALLED AND LANDED HARD. (-23) MR. NEEDHAM INDICATED THAT HE WAS PRACTICING SHORT FIELD LANDINGS AT THE ALLISON, IOWA, AIRPORT, WHEN HE STALLED THE AIRCRAFT AT APPROXIMATELY 50 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO THE PROPELLER, BOTH LANDING GEAR AND THE LEFT WINGTIP FAIRING, ALSO SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE AIRFRAME TUBULAR SUBSTRUCTURE. (.4) THE PILOT WAS PERFORMING SHORT FIELD TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS. THE AIRPLANE WAS ON FINAL APPROACH, APPROXIMATELY 25 TO 50 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, AT AN AIRSPEED OF 50 MILES PER HOUR, AND IN A HIGH ANGLE OF ATTACK, WHEN THE PILOT REDUCED POWER TO DESCEND FOR A SHORT FIELD LANDING. THE AIRPLANE IMMEDIATELY STALLED AND IMPACTED ON THE RUNWAY. EXAMINATION OF THE AIRPLANE REVEALED NO ANOMALIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI98LA346](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI98LA346), Aug 30, 1998: Needham Glastar (N37JN), Allison, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to maintain adequate airspeed which resulted in an inadvertent stall.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
