## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-5) ON 9-3-98, PIPER PA-24, N6600P, ON A VFR FLIGHT FROM COOKSON, OK TO TOLEDO, OH, THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED WHILE LANDING FOR FUEL IN CHAMPAIGN, IL. THE LANDING GEAR DID NOT EXTEND TO THE DOWN AND LOCKED POSITION AND THE LANDING GEAR CIRCUIT BREAKER TRIPPED DURING SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO CYCLE THE GEAR. MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL FOUND THE AFT BEARING ASSEMBLY OF THE LANDING GEAR TRANSMISSION HAD SEPARATED AND CAUSED THE GEAR SCREW JACK TO BIND. THE AIRCRAFT RECEIVED MINOR DAMAGE AND THE PILOT AND ONE PASSENGER RECEIVED NO INJURIES. THIS INCIDENT IS CLOSED WITH THIS REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
