## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-5) ON SEPTEMBER 17, 1998, AT APPROXIMATELY 1327 EDT, A GRUMMAN AA-5A, REGISTERED TO BELLEFONTE, INC., 3704 STONEGATE DR., DURHAM, NC 27705, WAS PILOTED BY ERIC R. HUME AND WAS ON CLIMBOUT AT APPROXIMATELY 300 FEET AGL WHEN THE ENGINE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN POWER LOSS. THE PILOT CONTINUED ON RUNWAY HEADING AND SWITCHED THE FUEL TANKS AND VERIFIED THAT THE FUEL BOOST PUMPS WERE ON. THE PILOT THEN DECLARED AN EMERGENCY WITH RDU TOWER & ATTEMPTED TO LAND AIRCRAFT ON RUNWAY 5L. THE AIRCRAFT MADE IT TO THE RUNWAY WHERE IT HIT HARD AND SLID OFF INTO THE GRASS ADJACENT TO RUNWAY 5L. AIRCRAFT WAS SECURED AND TOWED BACK TO RAMP AIR FREIGHT HANGAR.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
