## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4) THE STUDENT WAS BRIEFED BEFORE TAKEOFF WHAT AIRWORK MANEUVERS WERE TO BE PERFORMED AND ALSO THAT THE CFI WOULD REDUCE THE THROTTLE TO IDLE TO SIMULATE AN ENGINE FAILURE. THE STUDENT PERFORMED THE AIRWORK MANEUVERS THEN WHILE FLYING NEAR A GRASS AIRSTRIP, THE CFI APPLIED CARBURETOR HEAT AND REDUCED THE THROTTLE TO IDLE, AS BRIEFED. THE STUDENT LANDED THE AIRPLANE SLIGHTLY LONG AND WAS SLOW TO APPLY POWER TO PERFORM A TOUCH-AND-GO LANDING. RECOGNIZING INSUFFICIENT RUNWAY REMAINING, THE CFI TOOK THE CONTROLS AND ABORTED THE TAKEOFF. THE AIRPLANE TRAVELED OFF THE RUNWAY INTO A DITCH. (-23) PILOT DELAYED ABORTING TAKEOFF AFTER LANDING LONG DURING SIMULATED EMERGENCY. AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN DRAINAGE DITCH.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB MIA99LA002](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/MIA99LA002), Oct 2, 1998: Cessna 150M (N63447), Pocahontas, MS, substantial damage. Probable cause: The delay by the pilot-in-command (CFI) to abort the takeoff after the student landed slightly long and his delay to add power to perform a touch-and-go landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
