## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

RYAN AIR CARGO ACFT SCRAPPED THE LEFT WING TIP ON THE RWY ON LANDING. (-5)ON LANDING, FIRST OFFICER MISMANAGED CONTROLS AND DID NOT CORRECT FOR A CROSSWIND SITUATION RESULTING IN THE LEFT WING IMPACTING THE RUNWAY. DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO LEFT WINGTIP FAIRING, OUTER EDGE (8INCHES) OF LEADING EDGE DEVICE, AND OUTER FLAP FAIRING. CREW COMPETENCY IN CROSSWIND SITUATIONS CAME INTO QUESTION. CREW WAS REMOVED FROM FLYING STATUS, AND ON 10/08/98 BOTH CREW MEMBERS WERE TRAINED AND CHECKED SATISFACTORILY BY RYAN AIR CREW DESIGNEE AND 727 STANDARDS MANAGER, JIM MILLER. THIS TRAINING AND CHECKING IN LIEU OF A 44709 IS ACCEPTED AND FLIGHT CREW WAS RETURNED TO ACTIVE STATUS.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
