## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ABOUT 20 MINUTES AFTER DEPARTURE FROM SFO, A STRANGE SMELL WAS NOTED IN THE AIRCRAFT. AS THE FLIGHT PROGRESSED, THE SMELL CHANGED TO A BURNING SMELL. THE FLIGHT CREW DID THE CHECKLIST FOR SMOKE IN THE CABIN AND REQUESTED DIRECT FLIGHT TO SMF. EMERGENCY EQUIPMENT MET THE AIRCRAFT AND IT LANDED SAFELY. FOUR PASSENGERS WERE TREATED WITH OXYGEN FOR SMOKE INHALATION BY THE SMF FIRE DEPARTMENT. SMOKE SMELL WAS TRACED TO A DEFECTIVE AIR CONDITIONER EVAPORATOR MODULE, WHICH WAS REPLACED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
