## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) PRIVATE PILOT WAS COMPLETING A SOLO TRAINING LESSON AND RETURNING FROM THE PRACTICE AREA TO THE AIRPORT. BY ALL ACCOUNTS, A NORMAL CROSSWIND LANDING WAS IN PROGRESS EXCEPT UPON TOUCHDOWN ON THE RUNWAY THE AIRCRAFT VEERED FROM RIGHT OF CENTERLINE AND EXITED THE RUNWAY ON THE LEFT. AIRCRAFT TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY SEVENTY FIVE YARDS LEFT OF THE RUNWAY ACROSS A GRASS FIELD AND CAME UPON A DRAINAGE DITCH APPROXIMATELY TWELVE YARDS IN WIDTH. THE PILOT/AIRCRAFT WAS UNSUCCESSFUL ON CLEARING THE DITCH RESULTING IN THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTING THE FAR SIDE OF THE DITCH WHICH TORE OFF THE MAIN GEAR WHEEL ASSEMBLIES AND COLLAPSED THE NOSE GEAR ASSEMBLY. AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST WITHIN APPROXIMATELY FIFTEEN YARDS OF THE DITCH WITH WHAT APPEARS TO BE MAJOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE. (.4) THE LANDING WAS BEING MADE ON RUNWAY 30L WITH A RIGHT QUARTERING TAILWIND OF 10 TO 13 KNOTS. THE AIRPLANE TRAVELED OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY DURING THE LANDING ROLL. THE PILOT ADDED POWER IN AN ATTEMPT TO FLY OVER A DITCH; HOWEVER, THE AIRPLANE CONTACTED THE FAR SIDE OF THE DITCH APPROXIMATELY TWO FEET FROM THE TOP.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
