(-23) WHILE ON A SPRAY PASS AT AN ALTITUDE OF APPROXIMATELY 20 FEET, PILOT FELT ENGINE LOSING POWER. PILOT BANKED AIRCRAFT RIGHT TO AVOID TREES AND POWERLINES AT THE FAR END OF THE FIELD. AT THIS POINT THE ENGINE QUIT. AIRCRAFT LANDED IN THE CENTER OF COTTON FIELD THAT HE WAS SPRAYING, SKIDDING APPROXIMATELY 65 FEET TO A STOP. PILOT STATED HE TOPPED OFF FUEL PRIOR TO LAST FLIGHT, AND HAD APPROXIMATELY 80 GALLONS ON BOARD AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT AND THE FUEL WAS EQUALLY DISTRIBUTED IN THE WING TANKS. ## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW99LA031](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW99LA031), Nov 19, 1998: Air Tractor AT-400A (N23787), Bunkie, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The total loss of engine power for an undetermined reason. A factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
