## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON NOVEMBER 25, 1998, AT 1500 LOCAL TIME, N5242S PILOTED BY MR. DALE ERICKSON, MADE AN EMERGENCY LANDING AT FAIRBANKS INT'L AIRPORT. THE PILOT REPORTED SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. FAIRBANKS EMERGENCY CREWS WERE DISPATCHED AT 1503. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED UNEVENTFULLY. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT A COIL ON THE BACK SIDE OF ONE OF THE FUEL GUAGES HAD BURNED UP AND STARTED SMOKING. WHEN MR. ERICKSON SHUT OFF HIS MASTER SWITCH THE SMOKE STOPPED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
