## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-5)ON 12/16/98 THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED FROM WICHITA, KS. (ICT) AT APP. 15:30PM ENROUTE TO COLORADO SPRINGS, CO. (COS) ON AN IFR FLIGHT PLAN. THE AIRCRAFT LOST ELECTRICAL POWER AT APP. 16:30PM IN THE VICINITY OF GARDEN CITY, KS. (GCK) THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY AND RETURNED TO GARDEN CITY TO LAND. THE AIRCRAFT LANDING GEAR FAILED TO EXTEND AND LOCK DOWN. THE PILOT REPORTED THE LANDING GEAR WAS CRANKED DOWN UNTIL A GREEN SAFE LIGHT WAS OBSERVED. THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED ON LANDING, NO INJUIRES. 01/05/99: IN A CONVERSATION WITH GARY KELLER AN A&P MECHANIC AT GARDEN CITY HE SUSPECTS LANDING GEAR RIGGING AS A CAUSE FOR THE GEAR COLLAPSE. LANDING GEAR RIGGING PRELOAD ON THE NOSE GEAR WAS WITHIN SPECS BUT AT A MINIMUM. THIS IS ONLY THE MECHANIS OPINION. THIS IS NOT THE DEFINITE CAUSE OF THE GEAR FAILURE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
