## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-5)ON 12/17/98, AT 1706 EDT A US AIR BOEING 737-400, S/N 24996, EXPERIENCED AN OBNOXIOUS ODOR IN THE AIRCRAFT CABIN DURING CRUISE FLIGHT. THEY ALSO EXPERIENCED SEVERAL INOPERABLE FLAGS ON THE #2 HSI, AND #2 ALTITUDE INDICATOR. THE #2 IRS LIGHT WAS ALSO FLICKERING, AND THE RADAR ENROUTE TO PHL. THE AIRCRAFT THEN LANDED AT LGA WITHOUT AN INCIDENT AND TAXIED TO GATE. THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT DAMAGED AND THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES. DURING THE INVESTIGATION, US AIR MECHANICS FOUND #2 AND #3 T.R.U. HAVING EVIDENCE OF AN OVERHEATED CONDITION AND AN ODOR. BOTH #2 AND #3 T.R.U. WERE THEN REMOVED AND REPLACED ALONG WITH #2 IRU. THEY ALSO REMOVED AND REPLACED THE RADAR INDICATOR PANEL. ALL SYSTEMS WERE THEN OPERATIONAL CHECK AND THE AIRCRAFT WAS THEN RETURNED BACK TO SERVICE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
