## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 20, 1998, AT APPROXIMATELY 1840 MST, N9281F LANDED TO THE LEFT OF RUNWAY 28 AT HAYDEN, COLORADO. THE NOSE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED, CAUSING MINOR SUBSEQUENT DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT. THE PILOT AND ONE (1) PASSENGER ON BOARD WERE NOT INJURED. THE AIRCRAFT WAS BEING OPERATED UNDER FAR PART 091 AT THE TIME OF THE OCCURENCE. LIGHT SNOW WAS PREVALENT AT THE TIME, HOWEVER VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT, HE HAD MADE A GPS APPROACH TO RUNWAY 28 AND HAD THE VASI IN SIGHT. E STAED THAT EVEN THOUGH HE COULD NOT SEE THE RUNWAY LIGHTS, HE MISTAKENLY THOUGHT HE HAD THE RUNWAY AND LANDED SEVERAL HUNDRED FEET TO THE LEFT. EVEN THOUGH THE RUNWAY WAS REPORTED TO BE SNOWPACKED, AIRPORT AUTHORITY REPRESENTATIVES STATED THAT THE RUNWAY LIGHTS WERE OPERATING NORMALLY AND CLEARED OF SNOW.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System.
