## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-5) ON 12/23/98 AT 2225 CENTRAL TIME AT THE MSP AIRPORT, FEDERAL EXPRESS FLT 1618, AT THE BEGINNING OF TAKE-OFF ROLL AN ELECTRONIC CENTRALIZED AIRCRAFT MONITORING (ECAM) WARNING SHOWING #1 ENGINE THRUST REVERSER (T/R) PRESSURIZED. TAKE-OFF WAS ABORTED. CREW CYCLED #1 T/R LEVER, ECAM WARNING WENT OUT. AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO ACTIVE RUNWAY FOR SECOND TAKE-OFF WHICH WAS ABORTED WHEN ECAM RE-ILLUMINATED #1 ENGINE T/R PRESSURIZED. AIRCRAFT THEN RETURNED TO RAMP FOR MAINTENANCE. MAINTENANCE APPLIED HEAT TO THE #1 ENGINE T/R PILOT VALVE PRESSURE SWITCH. SYSTEM FUNCTIONED NORMAL AFTER APPLICATION OF HEAT. DUE TO THE #2 ENGINE T/R BEING ALREADY ON THE MINIMUM EQUIPMENT LIST, THE AIRCRAFT WAS GROUNDED. TO PREVENT A FURTHER OCCURANCE, THE T/R DIRECTIONAL PILOT VALVE WAS REPLACED, AND THE REMOVED UNIT WAS SENT TO SERVICE ENGINEERING FOR EVALUATION.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
