## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 12/30/98 AIRCRAFT N1BL, LOCKHEED JETSTAR, S/N 5097 DIVERTED TO BILLINGS MONTANA, WHILE EN ROUTE FROM KALISPELL, MONTANA TO VERO BEACH, FLORIDA. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT DURING CLIMB TO CRUISE ALTITUDE, THE NUMBER 2 ENGINE INDICATED A DECELERATION FROM 101% TO 90%, AFTER ATTEMPTS TO REGAIN ENGINE POWER, THE DECISION WAS MADE TO SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND MAKE A PRECAUTIONARY LANDING. THE AIRCRAFT LANDED SAFELY AT BILLINGS, MONTANA AIRPORT. THE MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL REPORTED THAT DURING TEARDOWN INVESTIGATION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE CONTROL "THROTTLE FEEDBACK CABLE" WAS DEFECTIVE. THE OWNER IS SUBMITTING A MALFUNCTION OR DEFECT REPORT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
