## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

MR. SIMMONS WAS PROCEEDING FROM KMCN TO KAHN ON A IFR FLIGHT PLAN UNDER VMC DAYTIME CONDITIONS AT AN ALTITUDE OF 5000'MSL WHEN HE FELT A SEVERE ENGINE VIBRATION, NOTICED ENGINE OIL COVERING HIS WINDSHIELD WHICH RESULTED IN TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE. HE ATTEMPTED TO GLIDE MILLEDGEVILLE. REALIZING HE DID NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT ALTITUDE TO GLIDE EIGHTEEN (18) MILES, HE CONDUCTED AN EMERGENCY OFF FIELD LANDING IN A "FARMERS FIELD". INITIAL INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE REVILED A CRACKED ENGINE CASING BETWEEN THE #5 AND #6 CYLINDERS. BOTH SETS OF MAGNETOS WERE ALSO SEVERED. ENGINE HAS BEEN RETURNED TO CONTINENTAL INC. LOCATED IN MOBILE, AL FOR TEAR-DOWN AND EVALUATION UNDER FAA GUIDANCE.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
