## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-5) WE TOOK OFF AROUND 8:15 LOCAL ON AN INSTRUCTIONAL FLIGHT IN GREAT-LAKES N6075L. MY STUDENT IS A RELATIVELY HIGH TIME PILOT, BUT DID NOT HAVE ANY TAILWHEEL EXPERIENCE PRIOR TO OUR TRAINING. WE HEADED TO THE AEROBATIC PRACTICE AREA. WE PRACTICED BASIC AEROBATIC MANEUVERS FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES AND HEADED BACK FOR THE AIRPORT. WE ENTERED A RIGHT BASE AND LINED UP ON FINAL FOR RUNWAY 4R. THE APPROACH WAS GOOD, BUT NOT HAVING RECEIVED CLEARANCE TO LAND FROM THE TOWER, I DECIDED TO GO AROUND ON SHORT FINAL. WE ENTERED A RIGHT DOWNWIND AND DID A NORMAL APPROACH TO A 3 POINT LANDING ON 4R. THE FLARE WAS INITIATED A LITTLE BIT HIGH, BUT THE STUDENT RECOVERED NICELY TO A SMOOTH 3 POINT TOUCHDOWN. THE AIRPLANE TRACKED STRAIGHT DOWN THE RUNWAY. THE TAILWHEEL STARTED TO SHIMMY SO I TOLD THE STUDENT TO RELEASE THE BACK PRESSURE ON THE STICK TO REDUCE THE WEIGHT ON THE TAIL, SO HE DID. AFTER THE SHIMMY DISAPPEARED, I TOLD HIM TO PULL THE STICK ALL THE WAY BACK AGAIN, AND THAT'S WHAT HE DID. THE TOWER INSTRUCTED US TO TURN LEFT AT THE NEXT INTERSECTION AND HOLD SHORT OF RUNWAY 4L. I TOLD MY STUDENT TO IGNORE THE CALL FOR NOW AND I ACKNOWLEDGED IT MYSELF. I THEN TOLD HIM TO "START APPLYING PRESSURE VERY SMOOTHLY ON THE BRAKES" AS WE WERE APPROACHING THE TURNOFF WITH ROOM TO SPARE. HE STARTED TO APPLY PRESSURE SMOOTHLY BUT KEPT APPLYING MORE AND MORE PRESSURE. I TOLD HIM "THAT'S TOO MUCH BRAKES" AND "NOT SO HARD ON THE BRAKES", THEN "GET OFF THE BRAKES". AT THAT POINT THE AIRPLANE WAS STARTING TO VEER TO THE RIGHT AND I STARTED APPLYING LEFT RUDDER TO TAKE OVER FROM MY STUDENT. THE AIRPLANE THEN NOSED-OVER VERY QUICKLY AND CAME TO A STOP AS IF THE RIGHT WHEEL WAS BLOCKED. AS THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER, THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO TO PREVENT IT (THE STICK WAS ALREADY ALL THE WAY BACK).

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
