## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-5) USAIR FLIGHT 1177, B737, ENROUTE FROM BALTIMORE (BWI) TO ORD. AT 31000', THE PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY 25 MILES S.E. OF FORT WAYNE, IND (FWA) AT 15142OZ, DUE TO FUMES IN THE CABIN. THE A/C DIVERTED TO FWA AND LANDED ON RUNWAY 23 AT 151433Z W/O INCIDENT. TWENTY FOUR PASSENGERS WERE EXAMINED, SIX (6) PASSENGERS WERE TAKEN TO FORT WAYNE LUTHERAN HOSPITAL. THERE WERE 93 PERSONS ON BOARD, FIVE (5) WERE CREW. A THOROUGH INSPECTION DID NOT REVEAL A CAUSE OF THE FUMES, AND DURING THE FERRY FLIGHT, THE SITUATION COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED AND IT DID NOT REOCCUR.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
