## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-5)ATC REPORT STATED: DELIVERY SERVICES, INC., AIR TAXI PILOT DECLARED AN EMERGENCY DUE TO AN ENGINE FIRE AND REQUESTED TO LAND AT FLINT. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. PILOT LATER ADVISED ATC BY PHONE THAT HE HEARD A LOUD POP, THE RIGHT COWLING BLEW OFF, AND HE OBSERVED FLAMES. PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION BY THE DETRIOT FSDO DETERMINED THAT THE RIGHT ENGINE COWLING OPENED IN FLIGHT, BUT DID NOT DEPART THE AIRCRAFT. THE FLAMES SEEN BY THE PILOT WERE FROM AN EXHAUST DUCT THAT HAD SEPERATED ON THE ENGINE. THE FLAMES CEASED UPON ENGINE SHUTDOWN.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
