## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) UPDATE: 07/02/99: SUBSEQUENT LANDING GEAR RETRACTION/EXTENSION CHECKS IN BOTH NORMAL AND EMERGENCY MODE OF OPERATION WERE CONDUCTED. DURING THE CHECKS, THE LANDING GEAR OPERATED FLAWLESSLY, DURING REPEATED ATTEMPTS. IT WAS ONLY WHEN A SIMULATED AIR LOAD WAS PLACED ON THE MAIN GEAR THAT THE LANDING GEAR CIRCUIT BREAKER TRIPPED AND THE LANDING GEAR BECAME JAMMED. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED INTERNAL BINDING OF BOTH MAIN GEAR CONDUIT PUSH-PULL CABLE ASSEMBLIES DUE TO INTERNAL FRAYING (CONDUIT P/N: 455 180). THIS OCCURRED ONLY DURING REVERSE LOADING OF THE GEAR WHILE SIMULATING IN FLIGHT AIR LOADS. RECORDS INDICATE THAT THE CONDUIT ASSEMBLIES WERE ORIGINAL COMPONENTS INSTALLED SINCE THE TIME OF MANUFACTURER (34 YEARS, 1965). AEA-FSDO-17 HAS DEVELOPED A SAFETY RECOMMENDATION TO AAI-100 RELATIVE TO THIS INVESTIGATION TO PREVENT REOCCURRENCE. AN FAA FORM 8010-4 M OR D HAS BEEN SENT TO THE FAA SAFETY DATA BRANCH IN OKLAHOMA CITY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
