## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

AFTER LANDING ON RUNWAY 32 AT IND, THE DC-8 WAS TAXIING ON THE RUNWAY TO MAKE A LEFT TURN ONTO TAXIWAY A. THE FIRST OFFICER NOTICED THE CAPTAIN HAD SLUMPED OVER IN HIS SEAT AND DID NOT RESPOND TO HIS NAME BEING CALLED BY BOTH THE FIRST OFFICER AND THE FLIGHT ENGINEER. THE FIRST OFFICER WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE AIRCRAFT FROM HIS SEAT POSITION AND THE AIRCRAFT ROLLED OFF THE DEPARTURE END OF RUNWAY 32 AS THE FIRST OFFICER WAS ATTEMPTING TO BRING IT TO A STOP. THE AIRCRAFT CAME TO REST IN THE SOFT GROUND APPROX. 20 TO 30 FEET BEYOND THE PAVEMENT. THE FIRST OFFICER CONTACTED GROUND CONTROL AND REQUESTED THAT AN AMBULANCE BE BROUGHT OUT TO ASSIST THE CAPTAIN. THE CAPTAIN WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL AND LATER EXPIRED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
