## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-5)ON WEDNESDAY, MARCH 10, 1999, AT 1356 LOCAL, AFTER TAKEOFF FROM BUFFALO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, USAIRWAYS FLIGHT 1731 EXPERIENCED A "LANDING GEAR UNSAFE" LIGHT. THE CREW RETURNED THE AIRCRAFT TO THE FIELD, THE GEAR WAS PINNED AND THE AIRCRAFT TAXIED TO THE GATE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. MAINTENANCE FOUND THE LANDING GEAR TO BE COVERED WITH SLUSH/ICE. THE LANDING GEAR WERE DE-ICED AND THE AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO SERVICE. GROUND OBSERVERS AND THE FLIGHT CREW COMMENTED THAT THE END OF RUNWAY #5 HAD A LONG PATCH OF SLUSH ON ITS SURFACE AND THE DEPARTING FLIGHTS WERE RUNNING THROUGH THE SLUSH, SPRAYING IT INTO THE AIR AND UNDERSIDE OF THE AIRCRAFT. LOG PAGE #38557461. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
