## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ALASKA AIRLINES FLIGHT 592, A B-737-490, N708AS, WAS DISPATCHED FROM KOAK TO KPSP ON MAY 2, 1999. DUE TO DELAYS OUT OF KOAK, THE AIRCRAFT WAS NOT EXPECTED TO ARIVE AT KPSP UNTIL 2330 PDT. THE KPSP ATC TOWER WAS CLOSED A 2200 PDT AND THE ONLY LANDING RUNWAY FOR THE AIRCRAFT, RUNWAY 31L, WAS CLOSED DUE TO MAINTENANCE WORK BEING PERFORMED FROM 2200 PDT TO 0600 PDT. THE FLIGHT CREW WAS INFORMED OF THE RUNWAY CLOSURE THROUGH THE ISSUANCE OF NOTAM. ALASKA AIRLINES WAS SUPPOSE TO COORDINATE THE OPENING OF THE RUNWAY WITH PALM SPRINGS OPERATIONS SO AS TO ALLOW FLIGHT 592 TO LAND. HOWEVER, THAT COORDINATION NEVER TOOK PLACE AND FLIGHT 592 LANDED AT KPSP WITHOUT THE RUNWAY LIGHTS BEING TURNED ON. THE NOTAM WAS NOT CACELLED DURING THIS PERIOD.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
