## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4)ON THE NIGHT OF THE ACCIDENT, THE COMMERCIAL PILOT TALKED TO HIS AUNT BY TELEPHONE, WHO THEN WANTED TO SEE HIM 'IMMEDIATELY.' HE RECEIVED A THOROUGH WEATHER BRIEFING, AND FILED AN INSTRUMENT FLIGHT RULES FLIGHT PLAN FOR THE 1-HOUR FLIGHT. HE THEN TOOK OFF INTO A 200-FOOT OVERCAST, WITH A VISIBILITY OF 2 STATUTE MILES. THE AIRPLANE CRASHED LESS THAN A MILE FROM THE AIRPORT. TOXICOLOGICAL TESTING REVEALED ETHANOL CONCENTRATIONS IN THE PILOT'S BLOOD AND VITREOUS FLUID OF 0.235 PERCENT AND 0.255 PERCENT RESPECTIVELY. (-23)DEPARTED HWV AT 2223 LOCAL TIME ON IFR FLIGHT PLAN TO VAY MT. HOLLY NJ. THERE WAS NO RADIO COMMUNICATION WITH A/C AFTER RECEIVING HIS "RELEASE". THERE WAS ONLY ONE RADAR "HIT". A/C IMPACTED TREES, THEN THE GROUND JUST NW OF THE (HWV) AIRPORT. THE AIRCRAFT WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED, WRECKAGE SCATTERED AROUND ABOUT A 70 YARD PATH OF IMPACT. THE PILOT, THE ONLY OCCUPANY, WAS FATALY INJURED. THERE WAS NO FIRE.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC99FA107](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC99FA107), May 8, 1999: Cessna 172K (N7068G), Shirley, NY, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's loss of control of the airplane due to intoxication. A factor was the pilot's self-induced pressure to conduct the flight.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
