## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-5) ON SUNDAY, MAY 9, 1999, AT APPROXIMATELY 10:52 AM, LOCAL TIME, A HELICOPTER N2011A WAS CLEARED TO AIR TAXI TO AND CLEARED FOR TAKE OFF FROM AN AREA CALLED THE "HAY PATCH" AT REID-HILLVIEW AIRPORT OF SANTA CLARA COUNTY. THE "HAY PATCH" IS ADJACENT TO, AND WEST OF RUNWAY 32L AT REID-HILLVIEW AIRPORT. THREE MINUTES AFTER THE HELICOPTER WAS CLEARED TO AIR TAXI, A CESSNA-172, N9568G, WAS CLEARED FOR TAKE OFF, WITH A CLEARANCE TO PROCEED TOWARDS SAN JOSE, CA. AT THIS TIME, THE HELICOPTER ADVISED RHV-ATCT THAT HE WAS ON THE ROLL. RHV-ATCT AGAIN CLEARED N2011A FOR TAKE OFF AND ISSUED TRAFFIC AS THE CESSNA BEHIND HIM. BOTH AIRCRAFT WERE CLIMBING NORTHWEST BOUND AND PARALLEL. THE HELICOPTER WAS AHEAD OF, AND TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CESSNA'S DEPARTURE PATH. THE PILOT OF THE CESSNA WAS NOT ADVISED OF THE HELICOPTER. FOR THE CESSNA TO PROCEED TOWARDS SAN JOSE FROM REID-HILLVIEW WOULD REQUIRE A SLIGHT LEFT TURN. CLIMBING THROUGH 600 FEET AGL, THE CESSNA OVERTOOK AND COLLIDED WITH THE HELICOPTER. THE CESSNA'S PROPELLER CONTACTED THE BOTTOM SIDE OF THE RIGHT SKID TUBE, APPROXIMATELY EIGHT INCHES FORWARD OF THE HEAL OF THE SKID. DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO THE AIRPLANE'S PROPELLER. 1/4 TO 1/2 OF AN INCH WAS MISSING FROM BOTH PROPELLER TIPS. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE HELICOPTER. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. BOTH AIRCRAFT RETURNED TO REID-HILLVIEW AND LANDED WITH OUT INCIDENT.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
