## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

OPERATORS A300-600 REPORTED ERRATIC RUDDER MOVEMENTS DURING MANUAL APPROACH, CAUSED BY A DOUBLE FAULT WITH THE AUTOPILOT YAW ACTUATOR. AFTER REPLACEMENT OF THE YAW AUTO PILOT ACTUATOR, THE SYSTEM OPERATED NORMALLY. REFER TO NTSB REPORT: DCA-99-1A-058, DATED MAY 17, 1999.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB DCA99IA058](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/DCA99IA058), May 11, 1999: Airbus Industrie 300-600 (N7082A), Miami, FL, incident, no damage. Probable cause: Uncommanded rudder movement caused by a contaminant in the engagement valve solenoid that prevented disengagement of the autopilot yaw actuator and cross-connected wiring of the autopilot yaw…

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
