## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ON 05/15/99, AT APPROXIMATELY 2230L, THE LEFT WING TIP OF A DC-9-87 OPERATED BY SPRIT AIRLINE CAME INTO CONTACT WITH THE RIGHT WING TIP OF A B-727-200OPERATED BY UNITED AIRLINES. THE DC-9 AIRCRAFT WAS BEING TAXIED TO GATE C-5 AT LGA. THE B-727 AIRCRAFT WAS PARKED AT GATE C-7 AT LGA. THERE WERE NO RESTRICTIONS TO VISIBILITY DUE TO WEATHER AND THE RAMP AREA WAS DRY. THE PARKING AREA AT GATE C-5 IS VERY DARK DUE TO NONE OF THE LIGHTS ON THE LIGHT TOWER AT GATE C-5 BEING ILLUMINATED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
