## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4) THE PILOT REPORTED THAT HE HAD FORGOTTEN TO REMOVE THE FUEL VENT COVER DURING HIS PREFLIGHT INSPECTION. SHORTLY AFTER TAKEOFF THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND THE AIRPLANE COLLIDED WITH THE GROUND DURING A FORCED LANDING. DAMAGE CONSISTED OF THE NOSE GEAR, PROPELLER AND VERTICAL STABILIZER. NO MECHANICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE AIRPLANE WERE REPORTED BY THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL99LA096](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL99LA096), May 21, 1999: Rutan VERI-EZE (N80SH), Enterprise, AL, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's failure to remove covers from the fuel tank vent which resulted in fuel starvation.

## Other reports on N80SH (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Incident 20040514009889I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/20040514009889I), May 14, 2004: Amtr VARIEZE (N80SH), Defuniak Sprin, FL, Minor damage. (-23) Bounced slightly on landing. Main gear separated. Aircraft skidded to stop.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
