## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON SCENE INVESTIGATION REVEALED NO COMPONENT FAILURES OR EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTIONS WITH THE AIRCRAFT. FINAL INVESTIGATION AND PROBABLE CAUSE IS PENDING FROM THE NTSB. (.4)THE FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR AND THE STUDENT PILOT DEPARTED ON A VFR FLIGHT FOR THE PURPOSE OF HONING THE SKILLS OF THE STUDENT PRIOR TO TAKING HIS PRIVATE PILOT PRACTICAL EXAMINATION. WITNESSES REPORTED SEEING AN AIRCRAFT MATCHING THE DESCRIPTION OF THE SUBJECT AIRCRAFT NEAR THE ABANDONED HORSE HAVEN AIRSTRIP ABOUT 40 MINUTES AFTER ITS INITIAL DEPARTURE. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT FAILED TO RETURN FROM THE FLIGHT, A GROUND AND AERIAL SEARCH WAS INITIATED, BUT AS OF THIS DATE THE AIRCRAFT HAS NOT BEEN LOCATED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB SEA99FA176](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/SEA99FA176), May 28, 1999: Cessna 152 (N714UZ), Coeur d'Alene, ID, destroyed, 2 fatal. Probable cause: The flight crew's failure to maintain adequate airspeed, resulting in a stall and uncontrolled collision with terrain. A factor was mountainous/hilly terrain.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
