## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(TTY)AIRCRAFT DID NOT GAIN ENOUGH SPEED ON TAKE-OFF AND WAS ATTEMPTING TO ABORT THE TAKE-OFF WHEN IT SLID OFF THE RWY AND STRUCK A PILE OF DIRT, OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES ARE UNKNOWN. (-23)THE PILOT STATED THE RUNWAY WAS VERY ROUGH AND DURING TAKEOFF THE AIRCRAFT DIDN'T APPEAR TO ACCELERATE AND OBTAIN PROPER FLYING SPEED, SO HE DECIDED TO ABORT THE TAKEOFF. DURING THE ROLL OUT THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED TO THE RIGHT EDGE OF THE RUNWAY WHERE IT IMPACTED A PILE OF DIRT WHICH EXTENDED INTO THE RUNWAY AREA, CAUSING SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE RIGHT WING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI99LA179](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI99LA179), Jun 8, 1999: Piper PA-28-140 (N4525R), Traer, IA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's not maintaining proper runway alignment during the aborted takeoff, and the airport personnel not maintaining the runway. Factors were rough terrain and a dirt bank.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
