## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON THURSDAY, JUNE 17, 1999, A US AIR EXPRESS, DHC-8, N806EX, REPORTED AN ELEVATOR TRIM JAM AT 18000 FT. THE AUTOPILOT HAD DISCONNECTED AND THE JAM COULD NOT BE FREED USING STANDBY TRIM. THE AIRCRAFT DESCENDED THROUGH 11000 FEET BEFORE THE TRIM WOULD OPERATE AGAIN. ON THE GROUND, CONTRACT MAINTENANCE (CORPORATE WINGS) WAS CONTACTED TO INSPECT THE ELEVATOR AND TRIM SYSTEM VISUALLY FROM A BUCKET TRUCK. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE TRIM WOULD HANG UP IF IT WAS RUN FULL UP THEN BACK TOWARDS NEUTRAL. MAINTENANCE CONTROL DECIDED TO SEND TWO MECHANICS FROM THE HOME BASE TO TROUBLESHOOT FURTHER. MAINTENANCE REPLACED THE TRIM ACTUATOR IAW DHC MAINTENANCE MANUAL CHAPTER 27 AND RETURNED THE AIRCRAFT TO SERVICE. THIS INCIDENT IS CONSIDERED CLOSED.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
