## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23)ON APPROACH TO RUNWAY 9 AT THE WINFIELD AIRPARK, THE R/H WING OF THE AIRCRAFT APPEARS TO HAVE COLLIDED WITH AN ELECTRIAL SERVICE CABLE RUNNING TO A BARN WHICH IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 160 FEET FROM THE THRESHOLD OF THE RUNWAY. THE AIRCRAFT PROCEEDED TO THE RUNWAY THRESHOLD, AND IMPACTED INVERTED, WITH THE LEFT WING LOW. THE AIRCRAFT WENT THROUGH A BARDED WIRE FENCE THAT MARKED THE RUNWAY THRESHOLD, AND CAME TO REST IN THE INVERTED POSITION 26 FEET BEYOND THE IMPACT POINT. THE PILOT WAS FATALLY INJURED. THERE WERE NO WITNESSES, BUT BASED ON RADIO COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE PILOT, IT WAS ESTIMATED THAT THE ACCIDENT WENT UNDETECTED FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO HOURS. IT WAS OBSERVED 5 OR 6 HOURS AFTER THE ACCIDENT THAT THE MIXTURE CONTROL IN THE COCKPIT WAS IN THE IDLE CUT-OFF POSITION. AFTER THE AIRCRAFT WAS TURNED UPRIGHT, IT WAS OBSERVED THAT THE ELT SWITCH WAS IN THE "OFF" POSITION.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
