## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ADAMS HOT AIR BALLOON CAUGHT FIRE, CRASHED INTO A HOUSE, AND THE HOUSE ALSO CAUGHT FIRE, OTHER CIRCUMSTANCES ARE UNKNOWN. (-23) PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMI^ WAS OPERATING HOT AIR BALLOON N9808S AT NIGHT NEAR ALPHARETTA, GA. THE BALLOON WAS ON A TETHER WHEN A FUEL LINE NEAR THE BURNER CAUGHT FIRE. THE PASSENGER (1) WHILE THE BASKET WAS NEAR THE GROUND, GOT OUT SAFELY. THE INTENSITY OF THE FIRE INCREASED AND AS THE BALLOON BEGAN TO ASCEND, THE PILOT JUMPED OUT BREAKING HIS LEFT ARM ON IMPACT WITH THE GROUND. THE TETHER BURNED INTO ALLOWING THE BALLOON TO GO ON A 30 MILE UNMANNED FLIGHT LANDING NEAR WOODSTOCK, GA. PROPERTY DAMAGE APPEARED MINIMAL.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB ATL99LA103](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/ATL99LA103), Jul 4, 1999: Adams A55S (N9808S), Woodstock, GA, destroyed. Probable cause: A loose connection between the fuel line fitting and the burner assembly which resulted in a fire.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
