## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

ACFT RAN OFF THE RWY AFTER LANDING AND SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE. (-23) DURING THE LANDING ROLLOUT, THE A/C WAS BLOWN SIDEWAYS BY A HEAT GENERATED DUST DEVIL/WHIRLWIND, (PREVIOUSLY UNSEEN BY THE PILOT) CAUSING THE LEFT WHEEL/AXLE TO SNAP OFF. THE LANDING GEAR STRUT WAS THEN FOLDED UP TO THE BOTTOM OF THE FUSELAGE. THE LEFT WING/AIRLERON THEN DRUG ALONG THE GROUND, ALSO DAMAGED WERE THE PROPELLER AND COWLING AND THE LEFT ELEVATOR AND STABILIZER. THE TWO OCCUPANTS WERE UNINJURED. NO FIRE FOLLOWED.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB LAX99LA249](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/LAX99LA249), Jul 9, 1999: Cessna 185 (N6XS), Beckwourth, CA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate compensation for the wind conditions and subsequent failure to maintain directional control.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
