## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4)THE ENGINE LOST POWER FOLLOWING THE FIRST POWER REDUCTION DURING THE INITIAL TAKEOFF CLIMB. THE AGRICULTURAL AIRPLANE WAS LOADED WITH 1,000 POUNDS OF RICE SEED. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO DUMP THE PAYLOAD AS HE MANEUVERED THE AIRPLANE TO CLEAR TREES IN HIS PATH. THE AIRPLANE TOUCHED DOWN IN A MARSHY GRASS AREA. UPON TOUCH DOWN, THE MAIN LANDING GEAR TIRES SANK IN THE SOFT MUD, AND THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER, COMING TO REST IN THE INVERTED POSITION, PARTIALLY SUBMERGED IN WATER. EXAMINATION OF THE WRECKAGE BY THE OPERATOR AND THE FAA INSPECTOR REVEALED THAT THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WAS THE RESULT OF FUEL STARVATION AS RESULT OF A BLOCKED FUEL VENT TUBE. (-23)THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THE AIRPLANE LOST POWER FOLLOWING HIS FIRST POWER REDUCTION AFTER TAKEOFF. THE AIRPLANE LANDED IN A MARSHY FIELD. UPON TOUCHDOWN, THE MAIN LANDING GEAR SANK IN MUD, AND THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER. THE PILOT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW99LA186](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW99LA186), Jul 9, 1999: Cessna A188B (N731AR), Gheens, LA, substantial damage. Probable cause: The loss of engine power due to fuel starvation as result of a blocked fuel vent. A factor was the lack of suitable terrain for the forced landing.

## Other reports on N731AR (1)

Matched to the same aircraft by N-number and date.

- [Accident 19920815031409A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920815031409A), Aug 15, 1992: Cessna A188B (N731AR), Mathew, LA, Substantial damage. Lost control trying to take off on rough dirt road. Collided with road ditch.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
