## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) THE FLIGHT WAS CONDUCTED UNDER 14 CFR PART 91 FOR THE PURPOSE OF OBTAINING NIGHT CURRENCY. THE PRIVATE PILOT DEPARTED FARGO HECTOR INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND REMAINED IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN FOR RUNWAY 17. ON THE FIRST LANDING THE PILOT STATED THAT HE FLARED TOO HIGH AND THIS ACTION RESULTED IN A HARD LANDING. HE CONTINUED MAKING LANDINGS AND ONLY WHEN HE PREPARED TO PLACE THE AIRCRAFT IN ITS HANGAR DID HE FIND THAT THE PROPELLER TIPS WERE BENT. HE REPORTED THIS TO THE FAA AND INITIAL INVESTIGATION INDICATEDDAMAGE CONSISTENT WITH AN AIRCRAFT INCIDENT. HOWEVER FURTHER INVESTIGATION AFTER ENGINE REMOVAL INDICATED A BENT AND DISTORTED FIREWALL. THE REPORT HAS NOW BEEN CHANGED TO REFLECT THIS FINDING.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI99LA338](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI99LA338), Jul 24, 1999: Cessna 182R (N9799E), Fargo, ND, substantial damage. Probable cause: the pilot misjudged the landing flare which resulted in the airplane porpoising during the landing.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
