## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(.4) THE STUDENT PILOT LOST CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE DURING THE LANDING ROLL AT A PRIVATE GRASS AIRSTRIP. THE PILOT TOLD AN FAA INSPECTOR THAT HIS LANDING APPROACH SPEED WAS 'TOO HOT,' AND ON THE LANDING ROLL, HE OVERRAN THE RUNWAY. DURING THE LANDING ROLL, THE PILOT APPLIED 'EXCESSIVE BRAKING WHILE TURNING, RESULTING IN THE RIGHT MAIN LANDING GEAR COLLAPSING.' (-23) THE STUDENT PILOT, WHILE OPERATING ON A CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT WITHOUT INSTRUCTOR SUPERVISION AND CARRYING PASSENGERS, REPORTED THAT HE APPROACHED FOR LANDING "TOO HOT" AND "GROUND LOOPED" ON A GRASS STRIP. HE STATED THAT THE LANDING STRIP WAS WET WITH DEW.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB FTW99LA237](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/FTW99LA237), Jul 26, 1999: Piper PA-28R-180 (N7605J), Heber Springs, AR, substantial damage. Probable cause: The pilot's excessive approach airspeed resulting in the airplane overrunning the runway, and his failure to maintain aircraft control during the landing roll.
