## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON JULY 28, 1999, AT 1145 EDT, A CESSNA 177RG, N177WB, REGISTERED TO SONLIGHT AVIATION, INC. COLLIDED WITH THE GROUND ON LANDING AT HERNANDO COUNTY AIRPORT, BROOKSVILLE, FLORIDA, WHILE ON A PERSONAL FLIGHT. VISUAL METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS PREVAILED AT THE TIME. THE AIRCRAFT SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE AND THE PILOT AND PASSENGER WERE NOT INJURED. THE FLIGHT ORIGINATED AT THE SAME AIRPORT AS ABOVE. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE CLEVIS THAT FASTENS THE NOSE GEAR DOOR TO THE NOSE GEAR STRUT HAD BEEN TIGHTENED SO MUCH THAT IT DID NOT ALLOW THE DOOR TO PIVOT. THIS NOSE GEAR DOOR WAS BENT AND CRACKED AND WHEN THE COWLING WAS REMOVED AND THE NOSE GEAR DOOR WAS MOVED THROUGHOUT ITS RANGE OF MOVEMENT, IT CAUGHT ON THE FORWARD PART OF THE COWLING, NOT ALLOWING THE NOSE GEAR DOOR TO OPEN PROPERLY.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
