## Narrative

As the FAA filed it, in capitals; the FAA replaces private details with ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^.

(-23) ON FRIDAY, JULY 30, 1999, AT APPROX. 1725 CDT, AN AIR TRACTOR AT-502B, N5008Z, CONTACTED THE UPPER SOUTHWESTERLY DIRECTIONAL GUY WIRE OF A COMMUNICATIONS TOWER LOCATED FOUR MILES TO THE WNW OF GILTNER, NEBRASKA. THIS 350 FOOT TOWER IS OWNED BY PLATTE VALLEY COMMUNICATIONS OF GRAND ISLAND, NEBRASKA, AND IS LOCATED AT A LATITUDINAL/LONGITUDINAL REFERENCE OF N40.48.01/W98.13.30. THE WIRE STRIKE, AND SUBSEQUENT IMPACT WITH THE GROUND APPROX. 750 FEET DUE WEST FROM THE TOWER BASE INFLICTED FATAL INJURIES TO THE PILOT.

## The NTSB's investigation of this event (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB CHI99FA267](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/CHI99FA267), Jul 30, 1999: Air Tractor AT502B (N5008Z), Giltner, NE, destroyed, 1 fatal. Probable cause: The pilot's inadequate visual lookout, and his failure to maintain clearance from the guy wire. A factor was the guy wire.

From the FAA Accident/Incident Data System. Reports are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model. For accidents, the NTSB's own investigation is the fuller record.
